Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission Resume In Person Meetings

Both the Board of Supervisors and the Planning Commission are resuming in person meetings. The Board will be meeting at the Boalsburg Fire Hall through August. The Planning Commission’s meeting location is still being determined, though they will also likely be at the Boalsburg Fire Hall.

The pandemic forced us into the virtual world for our meetings. The Board of Supervisors recognized that this made our meetings more accessible to our residents. They are committed to continuing to provide a virtual option and to finding new ways to keep residents engaged and informed.

The Township will pilot a hybrid meeting option at the Board’s July meeting (July 12th at 7:30 PM). This option will allow residents to use the Zoom platform to watch and participate in the in person meeting. Please email the Township Manager at manager@harristownship.org if you would like to attend the meeting virtually.

Board of Supervisors to Resume In Person Meetings and Discuss Proposed CATA Service Cuts

The Board of Supervisors will resume in person meetings on June 14th. The Board will meet at the Boalsburg Fire Hall, 113 East Pine Street, through the summer. Meetings will be streamed live on the Township’s Youtube page (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBok7e3xXS3-FO9ote22s9w) and will be broadcast by C-Net. The meeting will begin at 7:30 PM.

The Township will follow the CDC’s guidance on masking at its meeting in June. If a resident is fully vaccinated, no mask is required. If a resident is not fully vaccinated, a mask should be worn.

Residents who are unable to attend in person may still submit written comment to be read into the record. Comments can be emailed to the Township Manager at manager@harristownship.org until 7:00 PM on the 14th.

At Monday’s meeting, the Board will discuss CATA’s proposed service cuts. These cuts would see the elimination of the B route, along with the addition of a pilot program for CATAGO. During the pilot program, the P route would be maintained, but the route would be changed, and existing CATA Ride participants would be allowed to still utilize CATA Ride, but no new riders could join that program. The pilot program would last for one year.

The Board of Supervisors have expressed their concern about these proposed changes to CATA staff. They hope to work with CATA on a fair and equitable solution that will preserve service in the Township. If you are a resident who is impacted by this proposal, we encourage you to attend the meeting or to provide comment to the Township. It is very important that CATA hear how these proposed changes will impact our community.
