Scope and Purpose
The Shade Tree Commission is comprised of 5 residents who are interested in the care of our trees. The Commission plans the maintenance, planting and replacements of all street trees.
The Shade Tree Commission meet on the 2nd Thursday of every month at 4:30 PM in the Township building.
Did You Know?
The Township owns and maintains all trees that are located within its road right of way. The Township is responsible for the pruning, removal and maintenance of these trees.
Residents can obtain permission from the Shade Tree Commission to do work on a Township tree. Residents should first read the Township’s Rules and Regulations for Arbor Work prior to seeking permission from the Township. Residents that are interested in learning more about what work they can do on a tree should contact the Township Manager at manager@harristownship.org or by phone at 466-6228.

Spongy Moth Information and Resources
Spongy moth caterpillars feed on the leaves of over 300 species of trees and higher densities of the caterpillars can result in heavy or complete defoliation. Pennsylvania has experienced multiple infestations of spongy moths over the past several decades. These infestations are cyclical, with some areas of the State being impacted more than others. Mature trees can be more susceptible to these infestations and stressors related to defoliation, that can potentially lead to mortality.
